Something about yoga and paying attention to song lyrics. I guess this is my new thing. Yesterday it was a Coldplay song….the lyrics that shouted at me were “Nobody Said it Was Easy”.
It felt like some sort of validation or affirmation for me. Like I was being told it’s ok to struggle…nobody said it was easy….then I thought about all the things that “it” represents for me:
Work
Physical Healing
Emotional Healing
Life
I struggle daily to feel whole without running. I constantly want to put a disclaimer to every day that states “well today was hard because I can’t run”. When actually I should just accept today was hard because it was hard.
I’m working hard at building my freelance business. I’ve recently been certified as a New York City M/WBE (Minority/women owned business) and attended a networking/procurement event this past Wednesday in the city where I had the opportunity to talk to 70 NYC agencies who could potentially contract me to do work for them.
This required me to dig deep to give my “elevator pitch” to these agencies. I came home drained and while I wanted to feel optimistic about the potential opportunities, I felt overwhelmed from it all.
I totally managed to recharge over the weekend though and that’s left me ready to tackle today.
Friday I drove out to visit a friend who I haven’t seen in a while. Her daughter is almost 6 and as adorable as ever. She heard me talking about my worry about finances and hoping I can get my business to make more money by finding some additional clients and gave me $5,000 in Post-It note currency…We played with Legos and even baked a cake in her LaLa Loopsy oven (like the Easy Bake oven).
Let’s just say the cake wasn’t such a success but we laughed and enjoyed the silliness of half uncooked-stuck to the pan cake crumbles sprinkled on top of some very weird tasting “frosting”. Sometimes it’s about the process and not the end result right? 🙂
Saturday was yoga as I mentioned at the beginning of this post where I had my big “nobody said it was easy” aha moment. I met another friend for lunch right after and we had a good 2+ hours to catch up on life.
And then I spent the remainder of the weekend enjoying the most perfect summer weather with Mr. SOTSS and the pooches. We took a walk on the beach on Saturday night.
Yesterday we checked out a local wine festival. For $10 I sampled about 20 varieties from 5 or 6 New Jersey wineries. They only give you a teeny amount so maybe 2 glasses worth overall. I’m a fan of Syrah mostly but also tried a few semi sweet wines.
We also just enjoyed quality time at Mr. SOTSS’ house.
I hope you all had a great weekend.
Anyone run a race this weekend?
Anyone cook anything yummy?
Spend any time at the beach?
Do you like wine? What’s your favorite kind?
Love, love, love the name of your business! So fun! :0)
Thanks Jenn!
Great business name! Looks like such a fun weekend. I am a wine lover and really enjoy trying new ones! Wish we had more wineries around here!
Thanks Susan. Yes, wineries are fun!
I love that Coldplay song and the name of your business too! I haven’t been running much lately or cooking since it has been so hot here in AZ but I do have a beach vacation planned next month so am counting down until then! I like wine and my favorite is Pinot Noir.
Is it triple digits yet in AZ? I was there once when it hit 116. I couldn’t imagine that all the time thought. Enjoy your beach vacay next month! MMM yes, Pinot Noir is another fave of mine too.
You’re so lucky to live to close to the beach! I always envy your beach walks. Running and I aren’t currently getting along after a fall last week on the wet deck…stupid flip flops. I’m trying to keep up on my strength training though. Best of luck in your business ventures! Running your own business is always admirable!
Oh no! Flips flops and a wet deck are a bad combo. I hope you feel better soon. And yes, I don’t care where I live in life as long as it’s near the ocean.
