Happy Monday! I’m off today (although I have a dentist appointment shortly….#boo) and have just been enjoying this long weekend so much.
Starting backwards….
I completed the Staten Island Half Marathon yesterday and miraculously had a really good race. I’ll have a complete recap up soon. Thank you to those who gave me knee advice. I’m really happy to report it held up. Just some mild pain from mile 11 to the finish.
pretty medal
Saturday rained all day but when it lightened up a bit we took the dogs for a stroll through the park.
Happiness is…
Friday I attended a wedding. My hair behaved and my dress zippered….#winning
all ready to run a marathon…. #kidding
I got to see some old friends/coworkers.
And I had so much fun with my partner in crime pigging out on the best cocktail hour eats. I love that he loves food as much as I do. Food is not just fuel in our world. I failed at taking pics of the delicious eats because I was too busy shoving in as much as I could in an hour. But the highlights were mini red snapper fish tacos, crab cake sliders and mini philly cheese steak sandwiches. Oh the shitake mushroom tempura was pretty tasty too. =)
My favorite accessory of the night =)
After my dentist appointment this morning, I’ll be taking Duncan upstate to meet up with my friend Susan and her Jack Russell (Duncan’s girlfriend) Lucy for a hike along the Hudson River. It’ll be a great way to get that lactic acid buildup out of my quads from the race yesterday. The fall foliage should be pretty amazing too.
I love weddings. I always feel so optimistic and hopeful. And it gives me the chance to dress up. Y’all know I’m more of a t-shirt and jeans and sneakers girl but every so often I doll myself up and amaze myself =)
Tonight I’m wearing this cute dress I got on sale at Macy’s a few weeks back. It’s got a white lining with black lace over top.
Yesterday I walked almost 4 miles with one friend (and our dogs) in the morning and then another 2 miles in the evening with another friend (and our dogs). Duncan was exhausted by the time we drove home from the second walk…
that was a little too much for me ma!
It was great except my knee felt a bit sore by evening. My friend Doreen has a history in the medical field and as I describe the knee stuff she said it was a MUST for me to get some sort of compression sleeve for my knee. So I went to Target and got the cheapest one because in my mind I knew I probably would not even bother.
Today though, I had a change of heart and decided to at least try running a couple of miles with it.
that’s duncan licking the sweat off my legs =)
slow and steady
I don’t know if it was a placebo effect or not but my knee didn’t feel as tentative as it did the last few times. It slid down a little bit as I was running but eventually settled at a secure spot which felt comfortable. So…..it looks like I’ll be wearing it on Sunday. I just hate that it squishes the fat above my knee up. LOL!
Well, I’m off to get ready….I’ll be headed to the church ceremony shortly.
And for a little weekend inspiration, I leave you with this:
Have a great weekend. Anyone running this weekend? Any Chicago Marathoners????
I took 3 days off and today went for a run. 2.8 miles in and I had to stop for a traffic light. I immediately felt that sharp knee pain when i stopped. I continued running another 3/4 of a mile without pain but when I finished my run the knee hurt again. So now I am icing and praying. Half marathon in 4 days. I am such a knee pain newbie!!! Looks like I’ll be riding the bike a lot after Sunday 🙂
Can y’all give me some words of advice. Well other than taking an ax to my knee. =)
OK, now let me fill you in on my weekend. Yesterday morning it was POURING RAIN! I took the doodle out quick and then we curled up on the sofa watching old episodes of Mad About You while I sipped my coffee.
Duncan was waiting patiently for the rain to subside so he could take his tennis ball outside.
I took advantage of the weather and forced myself to do the mundane task of shredding old bills and filing new ones.
I’m terrible at keeping up with this. I want to go paperless but I need the bill to arrive in the mailbox to signal that I need to pay it. I’m a visual person.
I filled an entire bag of paper.
All of a sudden around 3:30 the rain just stopped and the sun came out. I didn’t hesitate and grabbed my running gear and drove back to the beach where I ran on Thursday to try and get my long run in.
I wanted to hit 10 miles but at mile 7 I felt that same ache in my right knee (that i felt on Thursday) and after another mile and change it was getting more uncomfortable. I thought I’d just try and stretch a bit and then finish the last mile and change but when I squatted down I felt a sharp pain in the knee. So I did the smart thing and ended the run right there.
Luckily there was no pain at all when walking so I hurried home, showered really quick and then took the doodle to the park to walk briskly for the 1.3 miles I didn’t get to run. Bingo! 10 miles even!
Duncan has the cutest little waddle walk…
This morning I hit the road at 7am to head down to the Jersey Shore to be a spectator and supporter for my boyfriend who was running the Jersey Shore Half Marathon. It was super windy and the temps at the start were in the upper 40s. But the wind didn’t seem to impact him at all. As a matter of fact he busted out a huge PR of 1:48:49, almost 5 minutes faster than his previous best. So proud of him! And I really enjoyed the spectator friendly and scenic course. Here are some shots I took along the course (i took lots of great shots of the boy, but he is camera shy so you’ll just have to enjoy the scenery mmkay?)
gorgeous views at mile 6
course views!
I stood right at the finish to see him sprint in
When I got home I I felt like I had run too. I think it was a combination of me being sore from the run yesterday and a little windburn/sunburn action too. So I took a little ibuprofen and laid down for an hour and then I was good as new. Next thing you know I was ready to take the Doodle for one final adventure before the weekend came to a close. I’ve been in a rut lately with where I take him so today I chose a new spot. We went to the trails that start out by the golf course. It’s so beautiful there.
magical
pretty!
I love natural tree trunk/root sculpture.
Next weekend I’ll be running the Staten Island Half Marathon. I’m going to do a short run on Wednesday and maybe another short run on Friday and that’s it. I want to make sure my knee can go 13 miles next weekend =)
