Meh

My attitude toward marathon training has been meh lately. After my 12 miler on Monday (not 13 like my typo blog post title stated) I haven’t run at all. I thought about it twice if that counts. It’s been so cool in the mornings so I have been walking with sir doodle for about 40 minutes each morning.

Sir Doodle wanted to take our usual route but i tried to get him to go a different way. he wouldn’t budge.

If I don’t find my mojo I’ll have to get someone to force my butt out there for at least two short runs mid week.

I spent my lunch break on the NYC Marathon website trying to get jazzed.

64 days!

It might have helped a little. Let’s see how it translates over then next 8 weeks. Maybe I need a new pair of sneakers. Doesn’t that always make you fall in love with running again?

Well, I need to be up in 6 hours to conquer the long run so I’m off to dreamland. Maybe I’ll discover the perfect remedy to my “meh” while I’m there 🙂

G’nite!

What do you do to get your running motivation back?

Have I ever asked this before—what running shoes do you wear?

What are you doing this weekend?

I love how I always manage to rise back up from my negative ramblings and find my happy again. I was so down on myself after my last run (and post) and feeling the dread of not being able to keep up with my training. Today I was scheduled for a long run of 12 miles. But I had this “Sallyllama” (think Dalilama but since I love llamas….well you get it.) moment. Why am I forcing myself to stick to a schedule that was created based on a healthy runner when I’m currently dealing with some compromising injuries? So I took 30 minutes to foam roll and stretch and then set out for whatever my body could handle today knowing I’m off all next week and could re-attempt a long run at some point then.

How many miles will you take me today?

How many miles will you take me today?

Well whaddya know? The stretching and foam rolling helped get me out the door with more mobility and less achy-ness and the run seemed so much more enjoyable.

I also wore some compression shorts under my skirt and it’s built in shorts to help support my hamstring.

IMG_7452I decided I’d stop running while I was still feeling good and that reminded me of the way I was taught to train Duncan. Always end a training session on a positive note. If we worked hard to get “roll over” right and it wasn’t working, I’d have him do a perfect sit/stay and then reward him with a treat and some lovin’ and that would be the end of the training for the day.

IMG_7454So here’s my advice to myself and to anyone reading whoever feels like their struggling with keeping to their training. Just train like a puppy. Make sure you’re prepared/healthy/and eager for your training sessions. Know what goals are truly attainable. Don’t try for the roll-over if your only able to complete the sit/stay. 🙂

I’m going to try again Monday for that 12-miler but at least for today my body was capable of 3ish miles and my knee, hamstring, and even my back are feeling better than they did before I went for my run. Getting the blood pumping is a very important part of recovery. (Of course I should say that I’m just a blogger and not a doctor).

Speaking of puppy, I took Duncan to the vet today.

IMG_7456He’s had this weird skin thing on the base of his tail that worried me. I was relieved to hear it’s just a benign skin condition that’s sort of like having blackheads. HA! My boy needs Stridex pads. The vet said it’s called Stud Tail. Duncan was happy at least it had a good name because he’s embarrassed to have tail acne.

We enjoyed a little walk before the temps reached the 90s and now we’re just chillin for a bit before I go out for a bit.

Oh and yesterday I celebrated one year since bringing home my Subaru Forester and saying goodby to my beloved Jeep Liberty.

Cheesy I just bought a car look!

Here’s to a wonderful weekend y’all.

What are you up to? Doing anything fun? What’s on your running schedule?

Happy Friday!

First let me say I’m loving your fun fact comments. To anyone who hasn’t entered/commented on my previous post and Pro Compression giveaway, go do it now!

So, 100 days until the NYC Marathon. Actually that’s really a lot of time and I’m glad because I’m nowhere near ready. My weekly mileage is only at 10-15 miles per week. It’ll go up to about 40 miles in my highest mileage week before the taper.

Wednesday morning I tried to get a run in before work. The weather was perfect but I didn’t give myself much time and to make matters worse my back was screaming and my calves were barking (or maybe the calves were screaming and the back was barking =) I just couldn’t get my legs to move…but I managed to shuffle through 2 miles and at least mentally I felt like I can start getting back into a routine of running before work. I’m not a morning person and I hate giving up any time with my dog before work. He’s got me wrapped around his little furry paw for sure.

The exciting thing about yesterday was realizing my rotator cuff has healed enough that I can finally support myself on my arms to do a plank and push ups. Woo hoo! I’m basically starting at zero here. Boy has my upper body (which wasn’t too buff to begin with) suffered in the last 6 months.

The weather the last 2 days has been so lovely. Lower humidity and cooler mornings reaching into the 80s during the day. Duncan and I have been loving the beautiful blue skies and cool “Dr. Seuss” clouds.

I was off yesterday so I went for a run late morning. What a difference a day makes. I covered 5 miles and the heavy legs were gone. I was in a nice steady rhythm. I could have run more but I know i’m going to be running both Saturday and Sunday.

IMG_7053I also got my haircut yesterday and have been enjoying running my fingers through my hair since she blew it out straight which is a rare thing in my life.

IMG_7084Today it’s back to work but then other than running and an evening with one of my girl friends I’ve got a really relaxing weekend ahead of me. Maybe I’ll even grab my lounge chair, sit by the beach and read a magazine or something.

Have a great weekend! And I’ll announce the Pro Compression winner on Monday.

Will you be having a relaxing weekend or a wild and crazy one?

So I just noticed that June 13th was my 2nd blog anniversary. I’m 5 days late! OOpsie! It’s crazy to think I’ve stuck with this for 2 years already. My life has changed so much in the last 2 years but one thing that hasn’t changed is my love of running and of course I still stand firm that it’s the best way for me to sweat out the small stuff!

My first post!

My first blog anniversary post!

Yesterday morning I met my friend Robin for a 5 mile run along the boardwalk. By 9am I had reached 10,000 steps. Love those kind of mornings.

I love the sun sparkled water and of course my favorite Verrazano Bridge!

My nephew turned 17 on Tuesday. It’s crazy to think he’s not that little toddler on the left anymore.

I’m taking a rest day today. It’s actually good running weather—cool and rainy—but I know I need the rest so I will refrain and stretch and foam roll instead.

Last weekend my boyfriend’s daughter had a dance recital. It made me a little nostalgic so in honor of #throwbackthursday here is one of my very adorable recital shots =)

And before I leave you all to get some work done I just thought I’d share this pic of Duncan from last night. He was in his “Northern Exposure” phase and pulled out a buffalo and Bullwinkle the Moose. HA HA!!!!

Hope you all have a super day!

What did you eat for breakfast today?

I had peanut butter and apricot preserves on whole wheat toast and COFFEE!
