Hello. Happy (black) Friday! I didn’t go anywhere near a shopping mall today. I’m not a fan of chaos and lines. I took Duncan to the park for some fresh air instead.

Let’s backtrack a bit. Last Sunday I went for a run in Mr. SOTSS’ neighborhood while he was at the Girls on the Run 5k with his girls.

I swear I don’t know what is wrong with me but I’ve just been so lethargic and not into any kind of exercise lately let alone running. But tonight, I forced my butt out for a decent walk with the dog when I got home from work and something magical happened. After about 20 minutes I felt the desire to pick up the pace and before you knew it I was sprinting a few blocks here and there. I think this is a sign that I just need a little more time to get back to business.

He's thrilled that I've finally decided that we could walk for more than 10 minutes after the sun sets.

The best part was that I finally hit 10,000 steps today.

FullSizeRender 915 days ago I had a 60,000 step day thanks to the NYC Marathon and since then I think I’ve reached 10,000+ maybe 2 or 3 days….one of which was the day we went hiking. Even this past weekend I took Duncan for a walk at the park both days but we didn’t go for more than 30 minutes because I just felt so fatigued.

I slept 8+ hours each night of this past weekend so maybe that had something to do with tonight’s burst of energy.

This is all very encouraging.

One sad piece of news. I think my Keurig is finally dead. So tonight I whipped out my handy dandy percolator and you know what? I missed it!

I hope you all have a great week.

Are you a coffee drinker? Do you do drip, pods, k-cups, french press, percolator, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts????

Hi there,

I can’t believe we’re just hours away from October (or into October if you’re across the “pond”).

Not sure if I ever mentioned this more than 100x but October is my favorite month. It’s my birthday month and right smack in the middle of my favorite season. It’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I posted exactly a year ago with some personal connection to this.

I was home from work at 6:45 and kicked into high gear.

I cooked dinner
I vacuumed my entire house including the carpeted stairs (which only happens after a supermoon 😉
I called Apple’s customer support to try and get some iPhone issues resolved (unfortunately they couldn’t fix the issue but they sent my issue to their engineer for further investigation.
I scheduled my mammogram for next week
I backed up my laptop and my photos on my phone
I packed up all my garbage and recycling for pickup
I played tug with this dood…

AND THEN……I went for a run. Yup, 8:30pm and I bolted out the door with a big old smile on my face. The rain and humidity of the day left and a cooler, breezier night arrived. I felt so “speedy”.

And since (for safety reasons) I don’t run with music at night I didn’t miss my iPod Shuffle that I lost this past weekend. #glasshalffull #winning! I’m going to have to pick up one before the marathon unless I want to use my phone.

Since I had to return those Brooks Ghosts I went online and found one of the last pairs of Asics Cumulus 16s in a size 8. They were super cheap ($69!)

So I close out September with 86.3 miles.

That’s really pretty low for someone training for a marathon but i’m content. Time to gear up for two crazy long run weekends followed by the t.a.p.e.r!

How was your September?

Tuesday 3 miles

So after feeling a slight improvement running 3 miles on Tuesday I ran 7 miles today and FINALLY felt like the runner I’m used to.

7 miles

I’ll never be fast but today I felt pep in my step. My leg turnover felt normal (NO MORE SHUFFLING!), my gait felt normal and my breathing felt normal and no side stitches. I averaged 11:15 miles and was pretty consistent for all 7 miles.

What do I think is the reason for finally having a better run?

1. I slept 2 extra hours on Monday and 1 extra hour on both Tuesday and Wednesday
2. I stayed away from artificial sweeteners and processed foods for the last few days.
3. I got new sneakers! (Brooks Ghost 8s)
4. The temps have been a little cooler
5. I took ibuprofen and walked for a mile with Duncan this morning before running

OK let’s discus #5 shall we? I have been suffering with some general back pain since the end of April. When the pain first arrived I thought I slept wrong and hoped it would go away in a few days. Well it didn’t. It comes and goes in waves and the actual pain center migrates. Sometimes it’s the sciatic nerve, other times the small of my back, sometimes it radiates to the front of my hips to the point I think i’m having issues with my ovaries!

I was trying to relieve my back pain last night. He was obviously quite comfortable

Anyway, this morning while I was still in bed and waiting for the alarm to go off, the pain was this constant dull ache and I just couldn’t get comfortable. I finally got up and took 2 ibuprofen. Then I grabbed the dog and we headed to the park for a walk.

Both the ibuprofen and the walk did wonders and the back started feeling great. And as a side-effect, my achy sore legs felt great too. I think this was one of the reasons I felt so much better running today.

I didn’t carry a water bottle but was happy to hit up this water fountain about 1/2 way through.

I’m meeting my running friends on Saturday morning for a long run. I’m aiming for 17 while they are going to cover about 23. We’re running most of this along the NYC Marathon route which is key! I’m feeling confident with some good sleep tonight and tomorrow night I’ll make it through Saturday’s run just fine. Not to mention having great company!

Whew!

So what’s new with you? Tell me one thing you’re happy about and one thing you’re frustrated with.
