Not the running type of MILEstone but I wanted to share…

My Jeep Liberty just hit 100,000 miles!

A new distance PR!

So, yesterday was the Brooklyn Half Marathon that I was supposed to be running. It was a gorgeous day and I was feeling a bit sad that I had to bail due to this foot injury…my first DNS. I knew I needed to get out of the house. I decided to attend a “safe disposal” event to get rid of some old cans of paint. I know, totally exciting. It dawned on me that the event was taking place by the beach/boardwalk near my house. I was bummed that I wouldn’t be crossing the finish line of the Brooklyn Half on the boardwalk in Coney Island, but I figured I could at least take a short walk on my local boardwalk after dropping off the paint….and then I realized I should take Duncan with me because he deserved a good outing. And that’s how my plan took shape.

We only walked (slowly) for a mile or so because of my foot but stopped to sit on a bench for a bit and struck up a conversation with a man named Paul who wasn’t having a good day. I ended up chatting with him for about a half hour and he spent the entire time petting Duncan. I hope I helped him a bit.

Later on in the day Duncan and I went to visit with my friend Nicole and her daughter and Duncan’s best friend Biggie.

Today started out in my favorite way (well, unless of course i was running a race or long run with my friends)

After a second cup of coffee I went to Trader Joes and got all this for $56!

We also took a walk in the woods. This was a dicey choice for me with my foot but I have been babying it so much i just wanted to warm my muscles and let some blood flow.

Some random things I’ve noticed lately:

  • I’ve done less laundry in the past month since probably 2012 thanks to not having running clothes to wash. I don’t mind and will enjoy it while it lasts because we all know as soon as I can get into my gear and run i’ll be filling up the laundry basket faster than you can say stinky
  • I’ve posted more pics of my dog than running pics in the last 3 weeks. (this post alone has 11 make that 13 photos of him.

  • My Thera Wrap ice pack has been used for about 1,256,000 minutes in the month of May surpassing my frozen veggies for the win!

And I would be remiss not to end this post without sharing a very fast approaching milestone…Sweat Out the Small Stuff will be having a 1 year Blogaversary in less than a month!!! I can’t believe it =)

So how was your weekend? Dish!

Where to begin? Well I’ll just give you a list of the things that have thrilled me today because lists always make life easier:

1. Medal Replacement

My replacement NJ Marathon medal arrived today! (the one I received after crossing the finish line broke and I emailed them).

2. Limp Lambchop

I decided to let Lambchop live. I removed the remaining squeeker and stuffing and tossed it in the garbage and now Duncan has a limp Lambchop (Yikes I hope that didn’t sound perverted.)

3. Retail Therapy (flowers and wine)

Went to Sam’s Club with my friend and we stocked up on stuff. I got some fresh carnations. (just threw out the ones I bought on 4/25! That’s why I love carnations….they last forever.
We also stopped at the discount liquor store where I got some little individual bottles of wine for those nights where I just need one glass and took a picture with Captain Morgan =)

4. Fajitas!

We also went out to eat at my favorite Tex-Mex joint, Jose Tejas, but I changed it up and went with the Steak Fajita Salad instead of just regular fajitas. The citrus-lime chipotle dressing was amazing!josetejas

5. An Edible Arrangement

My sister in law felt that the goodies from Amazon weren’t enough so today she sent me an edible arrangements and smiley face balloon! How lucky am I?!

6. LIMP-FREE steps!

And the biggest news is that I took some of my first LIMP-FREE steps since last Saturday!!!! I still feel soreness and tingles on the foot/ankle and definitely some unstable/wobbly-ness but it’s a small sign things are moving in the right direction.

And so now you know why I’m thrilled today =)

Question: Any Thursday thrills you’d like to share with the class?

OK Before I tell about how I ended up seeing Les Miserables on Broadway tonight I’ll fill you in on the drama/saga that is getting that stinkin’ referral.

I won’t be seeing the foot doc until next Tuesday and I am really annoyed about it. Apparently my lovely doctors office never submitted the referral for authorization to the insurance company and tonight’s appointment with the podiatrist had to be canceled 🙁 next available slot is next Tuesday. And so I will continue to work on my limp swagger 🙂 I’m really only frustrated because I am afraid to do any form of cardio (bike etc) until I get official diagnosis and instruction from doc. And if this turns out to just be tendonitis then I could have already had a physical therapy session or two!

Moving on…my boss and I were getting the final edits completed on our big presentation for today and he mentioned that TKTS was selling tickets to Les Miserables at 50% off. His other half was out of town on business and he asked if I wanted to go see if we could get decent orchestra seats for the show. I lined up doodle coverage and then said yes.

My boss walked and I swagger-hobbled up the 10 blocks from our office to Times Square to the TKTS window where we got our tickets and then went to grab a bite at Ruby Foos, an Asian/Fusion style restaurant.

Great way to end the night. Today I’m going to lay around and keep my foot up as much as possible. I really can’t believe I’ve been limping for 6 days already. I think this is a new PR…

Question: Have you ever seen a Broadway show? Do you like them?

Hello,

I’m still not running. Almost went out for a few today but decided to stretch and foam roll instead. So basically I’ve been walking.

I took the dog to the beach for a walk and caught a lovely sunset on Tuesday night.

It was quite relaxing…up until the point I found a tick crawling on Duncan. Luckily I grabbed it while it was still on the outer fur and not attached and feeding. EEEEWWW!

Yesterday was a commuting-disaster-busy-day-at-work sandwich! Both my morning and my evening commutes were 2+ hours a piece (more than double normal time). I was so grateful that I went to the beach and caught that sunset the night prior. I planned to just crash when I got home last night but then my friend Lenny invited me over to see his new puppy and catch up a bit.

Ludo and Lucy

Ludo now has a baby sister Lucy. She’s a cutie.

This morning I took Duncan to the vet for some routine booster shots. Since we were hopping right in the car I didn’t put his leash on. He stepped over the threshold but turned around and looked at me as if to say “hey you forgot to put my leash on”.

where's the leash

I spent the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon cleaning out the garage, and eating carbs. I’m just in a funk lately. Carbs are not the answer but since I don’t know what the answer is I’ll keep eating the carbs. LOL!

Luckily my friend Doreen texted me that she would love to meet up to walk the dogs. Perfect. Therapy and exercise for all!

wet feet

doodle and his dogues

All the rain we had flooded the path a bit and although Duncan hates water he trudged through the puddle begrudgingly. It was pretty foggy and the boats that were sailing past had loud fog horns that seemed to get Duncan a bit unsettled. I don’t blame him. Those horns are loud. We spent an hour and a half walking and hanging out a bit on the beach. It was just what the doctor ordered.

Only negative was the hour I spent pulling burrs out of Duncan’s paws. They really got tangled in his fur.

I realized I had no food in the house for dinner so I ordered chinese food.

And I need to perform emergency repair on a finger nail that broke really low! AHHHH! The sky is falling!!!!

photo 1-1Saturday morning I’m running a 5k with some of my running peeps. It’ll be my test to see how the ankle is doing. I’m really hoping it feels good…I’ve been in a funk and really need to run.

Well, clock just struck midnight so I’m off to dreamland.

Question: Any suggestions for how to handle my broken nail. Anyone else feel like they’re in a funk lately? Too early to discuss weekend plans? What are y’all doing?
