Happy Monday! I’m off today (although I have a dentist appointment shortly….#boo) and have just been enjoying this long weekend so much.
Starting backwards….
I completed the Staten Island Half Marathon yesterday and miraculously had a really good race. I’ll have a complete recap up soon. Thank you to those who gave me knee advice. I’m really happy to report it held up. Just some mild pain from mile 11 to the finish.
pretty medal
Saturday rained all day but when it lightened up a bit we took the dogs for a stroll through the park.
Happiness is…
Friday I attended a wedding. My hair behaved and my dress zippered….#winning
all ready to run a marathon…. #kidding
I got to see some old friends/coworkers.
And I had so much fun with my partner in crime pigging out on the best cocktail hour eats. I love that he loves food as much as I do. Food is not just fuel in our world. I failed at taking pics of the delicious eats because I was too busy shoving in as much as I could in an hour. But the highlights were mini red snapper fish tacos, crab cake sliders and mini philly cheese steak sandwiches. Oh the shitake mushroom tempura was pretty tasty too. =)
My favorite accessory of the night =)
After my dentist appointment this morning, I’ll be taking Duncan upstate to meet up with my friend Susan and her Jack Russell (Duncan’s girlfriend) Lucy for a hike along the Hudson River. It’ll be a great way to get that lactic acid buildup out of my quads from the race yesterday. The fall foliage should be pretty amazing too.
1.My wolf pack weekend in Atlantic city was so much fun! We celebrated Barbara’s birthday the exact way we celebrated Lisa’s birthday back in February. Dinner at Bobby Flay’s Steakhouse, some slot machine shenanigans (although this time I didn’t win $300) and a little dancing at the club. Oh, and you know, we drank lots of “coffee”.
WolfffffPACK!!!! (Left to right: ME, Gina, Lisa and Barbara)
Gina’s daughters helped bake these cookies for our trip. So adorable
Adult beverages
Filet Mignon with some sort of poblano pepper i think
Allow me to introduce you to these bourbon toffee profiteroles with vanilla bean ice cream. Holy deliciousness
Finally got to wear these purple patent leather heels! (They look like they are too big but it’s just the way i took the photo.)
2.I ran again this morning for 3 miles. My ankle is still pain-free but I’ve been getting some tightness behind my knee and hamstring. I have had this before and I am certain it’s just the whole “it’s all connected thing”. So in addition to foam rolling my peroneals I will pay attention to that area too.
3. Duncan got groomed and smells delicious!
4.I am on the hunt for a good backpack to use for traveling and hiking. Something that I can use as a carry on for my air travel and also road trips. I’ll take suggestions. Not looking to spend more than $100.
5. Frustrated with Garmin lately and especially GarminConnect, their online site where I upload my activities to. My activities aren’t syncing or uploading. Pretty sure it’s on their end. I always peek to see if others post similar complaints on Facebook and then I know I am not the only one experiencing the issues.
6. I can’t believe September is only 6 days away. Nuts!
7. I haven’t been hungry in the mornings, even on days that I run including today. I’m worried that my metabolism is going to be compromised from not eating until lunch time. I need to find something I can tolerate so early (that doesn’t rhyme with donut or cookie).
8. For all you dog lovers: Gina introduced me to this cool site called Packdog. I just set up a profile for the doodle. And sure enough discovered one of his “pawpals” Ned has a profile as well.
Hope you’ve had a great weekend. I’ve had a 4-day weekend and it STILL flew by. Friday was July 4th and I was looking forward to just laying low but soon low turned to lonely…then I got a text from my friend Z that she was having a BBQ and Duncan and I should come by. Perfect timing.
Duncan had prepared all morning:
Good thing the doodle rested up because his pal Chance was waiting patiently for his arrival. These dogs are buddies that go way back…They met in 2010.
They kept an eye on the grill. I kept an eye indulged on the canolis.
It rained for a bit so we stayed indoors but as soon as the rain passed we sprawled out on the deck.
just chillin on auntie Z’s lap
you gonna share that burger?
no worries! i’ve got the grill under control!
i can’t believe nobody dropped a single crumb!
Duncan and I headed home before sunset because he isn’t a fan of the fireworks. I’m grateful he isn’t a total disaster but the noise keeps him alert and unsure. His tail goes down and his ears go up and he can’t relax. So we blasted the television and shut the lights and by 10:30pm he finally fell asleep.
Yesterday morning was perfection! The temps dropped after the rain and I woke up to 63 degrees and really low humidity. And it was nice a breezy too. It almost felt like October. I headed out to the beach with a smile on my face and set out for my first post-injury long run. After being silly for the camera phone I eventually cranked out 8 miles!
so happy I could fly
foot is strong and balance is coming back
there’s something so awesome about this view.
loving my Asics Cumulus 16s!
still slow but i’m totally ok with that!
I managed to be a couch potato for most of the afternoon and then in the evening Duncan and I met a friend and his dog Chester for a walk on the beach. I have no pictures and trust me I’m saving you! Let’s just say dead fish and ticks were involved as were dog baths later on. EEEWWWW!
This morning I did some more couch potato channel surfing (ooh sorta sounds like cross training!) and then cleaned out my garage. Caught up on the ole telephone with a few friends and then I made a last minute decision to squeeze in a bike ride before heading to the grocery store.

Ride Sally Ride!
sun shining thru the boardwalk
why not take a selfie under the boardwalk
notice the plastic tie straps holding the water bottle holder in place? That’s what we call “MacGuyvering”
I also took the doodle for a last quick walk in the woods to close out the weekend.
And appropriately we saw this:
Happy Birthday America
So now it’s time to prepare for the week ahead. I leave you with this video of the doodle just chillin’ shot gun…
Yesterday was one of those days that sort of make up for the sucky days. My central air conditioning died on Wednesday. #firstworldproblems
My house eventually got up to 81 degrees so I went up to the attic to pull out a fan because someoneone was panting =)
frozen York Peppermint Patties are amazing when it’s 81 degrees in your youse
But luckily my dad was going to my house to finish up the kitchen cabinet refinishing project he started for me a while back. So I was able to schedule the repairman to come and he was there to let him in. I’m usually home on Thursdays but yesterday I had plans to go to Six Flags Great Adventure with my niece and nephew and sister-in-law (and niece’s friend and her dad too!).
Season Pass: YES!
I can’t tell you the last time I was able to rely on someone else to wait for a repairman for me. Thanks dad! And I’m so excited the repairs were minor and only set me back $190. Usually when something in the “scary room” needs repairs it’s upwards of $1,000.
Meanwhile I was riding roller coasters and eating every kind of unhealthy food possible like a champ and it felt so good!
Blue raspberry cotton candy: YES!
Cotton candy, ice cream, chicken fingers and fries paired with some of my favorite rides like Nitro and El Touro.
My niece tried to entice me with her Dippin Dots…eh, not a fan. But I enjoyed the bucket-o-chicken and fries
El Tour: Yes! (sensing a theme here?)
We were splitting up into groups of two to ride the skyway lift across the park and my niece said “kids in one and adults in another”. So I asked “am I a kid or an adult?” Gratefully she replied “well, your a mix!” #holdingontomyyouth
me and the niece who’s taller than me now. But not sure who’s goofier…I think I still have her beat.
And my “too cool for school” superman nephew reluctantly joined for a photo.
Just a bunch of fun in the M&M’s store
So get this? They have massage chairs in the theme park! The best $1 I ever spent for a 2 minute massage!!!
Niece and her friend won’t see each other for the next 2 months because of camp so they were inseparable yesterday.
I had to take a moment to say goodbye to Rolling Thunder…the wooden roller coaster that was so much a part of my youth. I took this picture last July..
My last time riding this classic from my youth
And I took this yesterday from the same spot…
RIP Rolling Thunder 🙁
So grateful I got to take the niece on it last year because it was taken down and is now gone forever.
I returned home to a cool house and the completion of my kitchen cabinet refinishing. #thanksagaindad
Here’s a side by side comparison of the before and after of the cabinets.

Today I have the day off. We get 3 Fridays off in the summer. It’s one of my favorite perks of my office. I have physical therapy at noon which I am looking forward too. Not only is my tendonitis hurting from walking around the park for 6 hours but my other foot and my knee are aching too!
I’ll probably squeeze in a 10-15 mile bike ride later this afternoon too.
Hope you all have a great weekend! Tell me 3 things you’re doing this weekend.
